Rémy Cointreau creates whisky business unit

French drinks group Rémy Cointreau has set up a dedicated whisky business unit following the recent acquisitions of the Domaine des Hautes Glaces and Westland distilleries.

Recent Rémy Cointreau acquisitions, including that of the Westland Distillery, have prompted it to create a whisky division

The new division also comprises the Bruichladdich Scotch whisky distillery, situated on the Hebridean island of Islay.

Simon Coughlin, currently serving as CEO of the Bruichladdich Distillery Company, has been named as the head of the new whisky unit.

Douglas Taylor, the global brand director, will take over from Coughlin as Bruichladdich CEO.

Frédéric Revol will continue in his role as Domaines des Hautes Glaces CEO, while Mark Breene, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Rémy Cointreau Americas, will take over as CEO at Westland Distillery.

Rémy Cointreau announced it was to acquire the France-based Domaine des Hautes Glaces in November 2016, and American whiskey producer Westland Distillery in December 2016.
