Halewood adds rum to Liverpool range

UK-based drinks group Halewood Wines & Spirits has added a 16-year-old rum to its recently acquired brand of Liverpool spirits.

Liverpool Rum joins Liverpool Gin and Liverpool Vodka in Halewood’s range

Liverpool Rum, which has an RRP of £48.00 (US$59.00), joins Liverpool Gin and Liverpool Vodka in Halewood’s range, which the company acquired for an undisclosed sum in May this year.

The small batch, single cask rum is said to be inspired by the 17th century docks and shipyards of Liverpool, Halewood’s home city.

Distilled from sugar can molasses at an unnamed distillery on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, Liverpool Rum has been “double matured” and then finished in ex-American Bourbon barrels.

“The launch of Liverpool Rum was inspired by Liverpool’s rich heritage and culture,” said a spokesperson for Halewood. “It celebrates the brand’s super-premium standards, appeals to rum connoisseurs and follows on from the outstanding popularity and success of Liverpool Gin.”

Bottled at 43% abv, the rum is said to have an aroma of oak and caramel with a “rich oaky sweetness, subtle spice notes and a long, lingering finish” on the palate.

When Halewood purchased the Liverpool Gin brand, the company said the acquisition would “pave the way” for the distillation of a wider range of premium spirits at its Huyton-based facility.

Liverpool Gin was founded four years ago and produces a range of three organic ultra-premium gins “handcrafted” within the city: Liverpool Gin Original, plus Valencian Orange and Rose variants.
