Diageo reshuffles key marketing executives

David Gates, head of premium core spirits at Diageo, has been promoted to the role of managing director of Diageo Futures amid a wider reshuffle at the group.

David Gates is now managing director of Diageo Futures

Gates will continue to oversee the Johnnie Walker and Captain Morgan brands, as well as Diageo’s border rum and Tequila portfolio, a spokesperson said.

As managing director of Diageo Futures, Gates will take charge of the group’s innovation strategy and developments.

Meanwhile, Mark Sandys, global head of beer and Baileys at Diageo, will extend his remit to include Smirnoff – a brand which was previously overseen by Gates.

Cristina Diezhandino, managing director for Diageo’s Global Reserve portfolio, will extend her accountabilities to include malts.

All changes came into affect on 1 December.

On Diageo’s board of directors, Alan Stewart was named chair of the Audit Committee, effective 1 January, as Philip Scott steps down from the role after nine years.

Scott will remain on Diageo’s board of directors and as a member of its Audit Committee.

In September this year, newly appointed CEO designate, Emma Walmsley, resigned from Diageo’s board of directors just nine months after joining the company.
