GSK’s newly appointed CEO designate, Emma Walmsley, has stepped down from Diageo’s board of directors just nine months after joining the company.
Emma Walmsley has stepped down as a non-executive director at Diageo
Walmsley indicated she wished to step down from Diageo’s board following her appointment as CEO designate of British pharmaceutical company Glaxo Smith Kline on 20 September.
As such, she was not elected as non-executive director at Diageo’s AGM last week.
Walmsley will join the GSK board of directors from 1 January 2017 and will be appointed CEO of GSK on 1 April 2017.
She was named non-executive director of Diageo in January this year, joining the audit, the nomination and the remuneration committees.
Following her new appointment at GSK, Walmsley will become the most powerful woman in the FTSE 100.
