TR wine and spirits sales rebound in Q1
By Kristiane SherryTravel retail wine and spirits sales reversed 2015 value losses to grow 4% in the first quarter of 2016, provisional data from Generation Research shows.
Erik Juul-Mortensen gave an optimistic address in Cannes this morningWine and spirits was the second strongest category in terms of quarterly year-on-year performance, only exceeded by fragrances and cosmetics (+7.8%). All other categories continued sales declines.
The data was presented by TFWA World Exhibition president (pictured) this morning at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes.
According to the Generation figures, the travel retail and duty free sector as a whole posted modest provisional year-on-year growth of 0.8% in the first quarter of 2016.
In terms of regional performance Asia Pacific continued its dominance, registering Q1 growth of 5%, while Europe returned to growth with a 1.6% values sales increase.
All other regions showed further sales declines.
Travel retail spirits sales sank 4.2% in 2015, data released from the IWSR showed.
