Salopian Strawberry Rum has been created using UK sugar cane molasses and local strawberriesSalopian Strawberry Rum is created by fermenting strawberries and rum together before the mixture is distilled in a traditional copper pot still.
Set to launch at Cardiff Rum Fest, which takes place on 1 October, the product is said to have a flavour of “strawberry, treacle and caramel”.
“I’ve been working on this rum for a good six months to ensure the flavours are right,” said James Crone, distiller and founder of The Shropshire Spirit Co.
“There were samples handed out at Cosford Food Festival that went down very well. I’m also working with expert barmen to come up with some signature cocktails.”
Salopian Strawberry Rum is contained in bottles created by Slovenian glass-maker Steklarna-Hrastnik, featuring the traditional Shropshire ‘loggerheads’ and other provenance cues.
Based in Halesfield, Telford, The Shropshire Spirit Co started production in December last year, launching a gin made using local botanicals.
