Former Deep Eddy CEO acquires Tequila brand
Former Deep Eddy CEO Eric Dopkins has acquired the Dulce Vida Tequila brand through his new Milestone Brands venture.
Dopkins formed Mileston Brands, a beverage alcohol supplier and investor, in February this year in partnership with Chad Auler, co-founder of Texas-based Deep Eddy Vodka – which was acquired by Heaven Hill in September 2015.
Dopkins will lead the Austin-headquartered organisation as CEO and chairman, while Auler will act as president and co-founder of Milestone Brands LLC.
Members of Milestone’s leadership team also include Dan Visel, vice president of finance; Dan Shuff, vice president of marketing; Henry Weaver, vice president of national accounts, and Richard Sorenson, chief operating officer. A vice president of sales will be named at a later date.
Dulce Vida Spirits formed in 2009 in Austin, Texas, with the launch of Dulce Vida Tequila – thought to be the only 100 proof (50% abv) certified organic Tequila in the world.
Sold in 17 US states, the Tequila is created in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico. Under terms of the acquisition, Milestone Brands will retain all Dulce Vida Spirits employees.
“The Tequila category is robust and expected to outpace the spirits category over the next five years,” said Auler.
“Dulce Vida Tequila has tremendous potential to break through, and we are excited to relaunch the brand and breathe new life into the existing line of Tequilas.”
Dopkins acted as CEO and president of Deep Eddy Vodka until its sale to Heaven Hill Brands. In three years, he helped build the company from US$6m in sales, to more than US$73m.
