Le Clos sells two Macallan editions for $55k
By Kristiane SherryWithin its first three weeks of operation, Le Clos’ Dubai International Concourse D store has sold two rare bottles of The Macallan totalling US$55,000.
The Macallan Golden Age of Travel edition was one of the notable whisky sales in Le Clos Concourse D’s first three weeks of operationLe Clos is the exclusive retailer in the United Arab Emirates for The Macallan Golden Age of Travel edition, of which only 50 bottles were produced.
One decanter has sold for $40,000, while another shopper snapped up a bottle of The Macallan Fine and Rare 1962.
The Macallan Golden Age of Travel edition was distilled in 1937 and first bottled 34 years later. A collector from the USA purchased the whisky, which is presented in a Lalique crystal decanter within a leather trunk-style box.
Macallan 1962, from the distillery’s Fine and Rare collection, is noted for being featured in the James Bond Skyfall movie.
“Over the past few weeks we have seen some extraordinary sales at our newest store, and we are pleased to be the retailer of choice not just for our brand partners, but also for our discerning customers and collectors,” said Iain Delaney, chief operating officer at Le Clos parent, MMI.
“We have an extensive range of products starting from US$28 through to some of the rarest products in the world, some of which are showcased for the very first time in the region at our new Concourse D location.”
The recent Le Clos sales follow a record-breaking January, which saw a US$361,000 transaction for 19 bottles from Macallan’s Fine and Rare collection.
Le Clos’ Concourse D store opened in March 2016 and is the retailer’s sixth wines and spirits shop.
