The Isle of Arran Distillery plans to open a second distillery site on the Scottish island to keep up with increased demand and visitor numbers.

The potential second site, which will be located at Lagg on the south coast of Arran, will provide the distillery with additional storage and production methods, as well as new visitors’ centre.

The 21-year-old Scotch whisky distillery is currently finishing expansion work at its existing Lochranza location, which includes two new pot stills and a blending room.

“This is a very exciting time for the business,” said Euan Mitchell, managing director of Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd. “Demand for The Arran Malt continues to grow and each season visitor numbers to the Lochranza site in the north of the island increase greatly.

“Lagg is steeped in the history of whisky making on the island and we intend to uphold that tradition.

“The area in which we hope to establish our new facility was the location for a 19^th century distillery.

“It closed in 1837 and prior to our formation in 1995 was the last legal still on Arran.”
