Tyler Wetherall wins 2015 Alan Lodge Award

The New York-based writer was selected by a panel of independent judges, one of which praised her as an “engaging writer who welcomed me in, gave me a drink and walked me through the subject matter”.
Spirits writers from around the world aged 35 and under were invited to submit up to three pieces of work published either in print or online between 1 October 2014 and 30 September 2015.
This year’s judging panel comprised Olly Wehring, editor of Just-Drinks, Emily Harris, director of May Fox Communications, and Colin Hampden-White, editor of Whisky Quarterly.
Wetherall has been writing since she first went travelling across Central America aged 16. She has been published in a diverse range of newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Times, easyJet Traveller, Grazia, Cosmopolitan and TimeOut Guide Books. She heads up the international bar coverage at BarChick, and is a regular contributor to The Spirits Business. She is currently working on her debut novel.
The Alan Lodge Young International Spirits Writer of the Year Award was launched in 2012 in memory of the late deputy editor of The Spirits Business.
Previous recipients include Hamish Smith, deputy editor of Drinks International, Laura Foster, assistant editor of Square Meal and Imbibe, and Amy Hopkins, news and web editor at The Spirits Business.
