Duncan Palmer, managing director of The Langham, London, confirmed Kratena and Caporale’s departure this morning following the pair’s final shift at the revered Artesian on Sunday night.

“After much success and international acclaim, we can confirm that Alex Kratena and Simone Caporale have taken the decision to move on from The Langham, London,” commented Duncan Palmer, managing director of The Langham.

“We thank them for their contribution in firmly establishing Artesian and The Langham, London, as one of the most iconic and innovative destinations internationally, especially further to attaining the World’s Best Bar award by Drinks International for the fourth consecutive year.

“They have established a great legacy and we look forward to the next phase of Artesian’s success and to making a further exciting announcement related to the social element at The Langham, London, in due course.

“Some of Alex and Simone’s colleagues have also decided that now is a timely moment to look at new opportunities.”

Kratena and Caporale became well known for their innovative cocktail menus at Artesian, including the Unfold and Explore menu that launched in 2014.

Later that same year, Artesian was crowned the world’s best bar at the eighth annual Spirited Awards during the grand finale of the 2014 Tales of the Cocktail Festival in New Orleans.

This year, the pair took their inspiration for their Surrealist menu from an erotic Surrealist cookbook called Les Diners de Gala by Surrealist artist Salvador Dali.

Commenting on his departure, Kratena said: “It’s been an incredible pleasure and privilege to lead Artesian for the past eight years and I will be grateful for its continued support and creative freedom we received.

“Even though we will miss our team, Simone and I are ready to pursue new challenges.”
