The Walsh Whiskey Distillery has taken delivery of its new copper stillsWith a capacity of 15,000 litres the pot stills weigh between four and five tonnes each and stand up to 6.5 metres tall. The stills made their 650 mile journey from the North West of Scotland to the distillery in Royal Oak, County Carlow, by road and sea.
Walsh Whiskey founders Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, family members, company employees and the wider Royal Oak community were on-site to see the convoy arrive.
Construction of the new €25 million distillery began in 2014 as part of an expansion partnership with Italian firm Illva Saronno. When complete, the facility will house two production lines with the capacity to produce 2.5 million litres of pure alcohol annually.
On completion, the distillery will be the only one in Ireland to produce pot, malt and grain whiskies. It will also supply liquid for the Irishman and Writers Tears brands from 2019, when distribution will increase to over 100 countries, including China and India.
Last month, Walsh Whiskey updated the packaging for Writers Tears.
