The Deveron is last of Bacardi’s ‘great malts’
By Amy HopkinsBacardi has launched the final Scotch whiskies in its “Last of the Great Malts” initiative – a range of age statements from its MacDuff distillery.
The Deveron single malt Scotch whisky range has been created at Bacardi’s MacDuff DistilleryAn extension of the Glen Deveron brand, The Deveron Scotch whisky range currently consists of 10, 12 and 18-year-old bottlings.
The launch marks the end of Bacardi’s unprecedented foray into single malt whisky production. Since August last year, the group has been rolling out a number of age statement malts from across its five John Dewar & Sons’ Scotch distilleries.
The group intends to continue launching new expressions, including single casks and small batches, on an annual basis.
“The final one. We’ve done it and it tastes great. People underestimate the quality of whisky that can be made at a comparatively modern distillery, this is really top notch stuff,” said Stephen Marshall, Bacardi’s global marketing manager of single malts.
Liquid from MacDuff was previously used for Glen Deveron single malt, which goes under different name as Diageo owns the MacDuff International trademark
MacDuff Distillery was first opened in 1960 by a consortium of four businessmen, who called themselves Glen Deveron Distillers Ltd.
All The Deveron Scotch whiskies are bottled at 40%. While the 10-year-old bottling is only available in France, the 12- and 18-year-olds will be launched in selected markets around the world including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, US and UK.
