The Bartender’s Black Book has been recalled from state-run liquor stores in New HampshireThe Bartender’s Black Book, now in its 10th edition, has been recalled from state-run liquor stores in New Hampshire due to its inclusion of cocktails names with sexual connotations, which some workers found offensive.
Other cocktails in the book include the “Gang Banger” and “Busted Rubber”.
Despite already purchasing 500 copies of the new edition of the book, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission has now recalled them.
The book was initially meant to be a resource for employees to inform customers about cocktail recipes and wine choices. However, a number of workers complained about the book’s “offensive” cocktail names to their unions.
The complaints were then passed on to New Hampshire’s governor Maggie Hassan, who instructed the Liquor Commission to recall the books.
“As soon as the books were first brought the governor’s attention on July 17, she immediately directed the Liquor Commission to remove them because of the offensive and objectionable nature of its content,” a spokesperson for Hassan told The Washington Post.
“Since then, the governor and the Department of Justice have worked to ensure that the directives were followed.”
The New Hampshire Liquor Commission operates 78 retail stores in the state.
