Ninth RumFest returns to London next month

The UK’s largest event dedicated to rum – RumFest – is set to return to London next month, featuring more than 400 variants from across the world.

From culinary demonstrations to insightful seminars, RumFest offers a host of intriguing events for rum fans

Master blenders, ambassadors, mixologists and industry leaders will share their knowledge with rum connoisseurs, fans and novices at the show’s ninth event, taking place on 17 and 18 October at the ILEC Conference Centre in Earl’s Court.

Following on from the success of last year, Golden Tot tokens, costing £5.00 each, allow visitors to taste rums that retail for more than £200.

One token can be exchanged for rum retailing £80 to £100 and more expensive rums will be available for additional tokens.

In addition to tastings, RumFest 2015 will also feature seminars, masterclasses and workshops, with speakers such as Tito Cordero, Diplomatico’s Master Blender, in attendance.

Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in an educational tasting of cachaça, pair rum and chocolate, enjoy introductory level aroma masterclasses and learn about the history of the rum industry.

Live cocktail competitions and cooking classes led by award-winning chef Venessa Bolosier will also take place in a dedicated stage area.

Meanwhile, a RumFest auction will return in partnership with Christie’s and is hoping to break last year’s grand total.

This year, RumFest will coincide with the inaugural Rum Experience Week, taking place on 12-18 October. The event will see bars, chefs, distillers, brands and rum lovers to create a series of rum-focussed events to “raise awareness of rum like never before”.

Boutique RumFest will be returning for its sixth year on 16 October and will also be held at the ILEC in London.

A trade only event for new and independent rums and cachaças, Boutique RumFest will also host a range of talks and tastings.

“We’ve refined RumFest this year into something very special,” said Ian Burrell, global rum ambassador and founder of RumFest.

“We’ll be taking rum lovers on the UK’s biggest celebration of rum yet, showing them the fun side of the culture, while at the same time giving an insight into the spirit so they can take home what they’ve learned, armed with a better understanding of the spirit.

“And with this we introduce the first ever Rum Experience Week which allows rum and spirit lovers to rejoice in the marvels of the category in a entire week-long celebration. We look forward to seeing you there.”

Tickets are now available for £49.95. Organisers have also launched a VIP package priced at £75 that allows for exclusive early entry, a three course Caribbean lunch and goody bag.

Tickets to select events are available now and more events will be announced soon with full information on rumexperienceweek.com or from rumfest.co.uk.
