Regan needs bartenders’ help for Just One Shift
By Annie HayesNew York bartender Gaz Regan is calling on bartenders across the globe to donate tips from ‘Just One Shift’ to help provide clean water to those in need.
The campaign raised US$40,000 for the charity last year – with hopes to more than double this total and raise US$100,000 this time roundNow in its third year, the Just One Shift campaign helps to raise money for ex bartender Doc Hendley’s Wine to Water charity, which aims to make clean water and sanitation accessible to those who need it most.
According to Wine to Water, 800 million people around the world lack access to clean water, and 2.5 billion people lack access to sanitation.
Established by Regan in 2013, the campaign raised US$40,000 for the charity last year and hopes to more than double this total and raise US$100,000 this time around.
During the week beginning 16 March, bartenders across the world are asked to register on the campaign’s website and donate all or part of their tips from any chosen shift.
Regan said: “Bartenders and servers have been changing the world via the Just One Shift and Wine to Water campaign for the past few years, and they have helped save the lives of thousands of people they’ll never meet.
“I know for sure that these bartenders and servers will continue to change the world, and hopefully they will encourage their friends in the industry to join them.”
This year, the two top donators will have the opportunity to attend an all-expenses-paid trip to the Dominican Republic, to help the charity in providing the life-saving services.
