Compass Box celebrates birthday with Hedonism Quindecimus

Independent Scotch whisky bottler Compass Box is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a limited edition expression of Hedonism.

Hedonism Quindecimus is a celebration of Compass Box’s 15th anniversary

Hedonism Quindecimus is a limited run of almost 6,000 bottles featuring grain whisky sourced from four distilleries around Scotland.

It includes 20- and 25-year-old grain whisky from Port Dundas; 32-year-old whisky from Bumbarton, 20-year-old from North British and a parcel of 32-year-old pre-blended grain whisky from Loch Lomond, although the precise provenance of the latter is unknown.

John Glaser, founder of Compass Box, said the new expression was in homage to the blended grain whisky first launched 15 years ago and that continues to be available today.

“Hedonism was where it all started for us as a business,” he said. “That product was about doing something different – something that nobody else in the world of Scotch would have even considered.

“For our 15th anniversary we wanted to go back to that style of whisky but we also wanted to update it to say something about where Compass Box is today. We’re 15 years older – maybe even a little wiser – but we still have that restless energy we had back in 2000. The juxtaposition of flavours and weights in Quindecimus is a representation of that.”

Glaser added that he chose to reveal the ages of the whiskies in Hedonism Quindecimus to avoid comparison with the “recent increase in the number of non-age-statement whiskies at the lower end of the market”, and to make consumers “aware of age and rarity that goes along with aged grain whiskies of this quality level”.

Described as having “deep, sweet caramel coconut succulence”, Hedonism Quindecimus will be available from 15 April in the UK for an RRP of £125 and 1 May in the US for US$175.
