Macallan M officially most expensive whisky

A six-litre crystal decanter of no-age-statement Scotch The Macallan M has been officially named the “world’s most expensive whisky sold at auction”.

Guinness World Records has officially confirmed The Macallan M Imperiale is the most expensive whisky sold at auction

It was revealed the bottle had broken the Guinness World Record when it sold at auction in Hong Kong for US$628,000 last January.

However, Guinness has now officially confirmed The Macallan M Imperiale – one of just four of its kind created – is the most expensive whisky sold at auction, breaking the previous record of US$460,000 held by The Macallan in Lalique Cire Perdue.

Bought by an unidentified buyer, The Macallan M Imperiale is also bottled in Lalique crystal, and was designed to commemorate the launch of The Macallan M in Hong Kong.

“To achieve this record for a second time is an outstanding achievement for The Macallan and is testament to the appetite for such exceptional and special creations with our long standing partner, Lalique,” said David Cox, director of fine and rare whiskies for The Macallan

“M Imperiale is the largest decanter Lalique has ever made and the largest The Macallan has ever filled. It truly showcases the combined talents of one of the world’s great designers, the finest of crystal makers and makers of one the world’s great spirits, The Macallan.”

Two bottles of The Macallan M Imperiale have been archived by The Macallan, while one has been sold to a private collector in Asia.
