The Macallan 62YO and Mortlach 70YO to auction

Two rare bottles of The Macallan 62 Year Old and Mortlach 70 Year Old Scotch whiskies will be auctioned in Scotland tomorrow.

The Macallan 62YO is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000 at auction

As part of an auction comprising more than 300 whiskies at Bonhams in Edinburgh, The Macallan 62YO will go under the hammer and is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000.

The expression, which was distilled in 1950 and bottled at 53.1% abv, comes in a Lalique decanter presented in a wooden case, with a crystal stopper and the original cardboard packaging.

The Mortlach 70YO is bottle 53 of just 54 and is estimated to be worth the same price as The Macallan, and is presented in a hand-blown glass decanter, with a sterling silver stopper and cradle.

It was distilled in 1938 and bottled in 2008 at 46.1% abv.

“We are fortunate to have two such rare and sought after whiskies to lead the sale and I expect this will generate strong fresh interest from collectors,” said Martin Green, Bonhams Whisky specialist.

Earlier this month, the world’s largest collection of The Macallan Fine and Rare range sold at auction, exceeding its presale estimate by more than US$100,000.
