New Highland whisky inspired by Burns poem

Douglas Laing & Co. has launched a new blended Highland Scotch whisky named after a mouse immortalised in a poem by Robert Burns.

Created using only highland single malts such as Dalmore, Glengoyne and Glen Garioch, “small-batch” Timorous Beastie is described as having a “sweet, heather honey and Highland character”.

It is named after Timorous Beastie, a mouse that was immortalised in Scottish poet Robert Burns’ famous work “To a Mouse”.

The expression has been blended and bottled by Speyside-based Douglas Laing & Co. at 46.8% abv and is now available from specialist whisky retailers priced £34.99.

“What we have within the heart of our Timorous Beastie vatted malt is a selection of great Highland malts on their own,” said Fred Laing, managing director and master blender at Douglas Laing & Co.

“Together they combine brilliantly – with some punchy packaging – to complete a triumphant trio of regional malts which now covers Islay with Big Peat, Speyside with Scallywag and the Highlands with Timorous Beastie.”

Douglas Laing released Scallywag – a brand inspired by the family’s long line of fox terriers – in October last year.
