Macallan fine and rare range to fetch $600k

The world’s most extensive collection of The Macallan’s fine and rare range will head to auction next week with a pre-sale estimate of US$600,000.

Zachys is to offer the world’s most extensive collection of The Macallan fine and rare whiskies at auction next week

Valued at an average of US$15,000 per bottle, these expressions span 1937 to 1972 and include The Macallan Fine and Rare 52 Year Old 1950 and The Macallan 50 Year Old in Lalique.

New York auction house Zachys claims that there were fewer than 80 bottles created for some vintages in the collection.

Other lots included in Zachys’ auction, taking place in New York on 18 and 19 September, will be 50-year-old Scotch whiskies from the Bowmore, Glenfiddich and The Dalmore distilleries.

In May this year, Glasgow-based McTear’s Auctioneers held a sale of what was thought to be one of the world’s largest collections of The Macallan Scotch whisky, valued at £100,000.

A six litre bottle of The Macallan M also broke the Guinness World Record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction, fetching £381,620 at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in January this year.
