Caorunn now UK’s 2nd largest super-premium gin

4th July, 2014 by Amy Hopkins

Independent Scottish gin Caorunn claims to have overtaken Diageo’s Tanqueray No.10 to become the UK’s second largest super-premium gin brand.

Scottish gin brand Caorunn has overtaken Tanqueray as the UK’s second best-selling super-premium gin brand

Citing figures from International Wine and Spirits Research (IWSR), the brand has said it has overtaken Diageo’s gin, which received a makeover earlier this year, with sales of 8,000 nine-litre cases sold in 2013, compared to Tanqueray’s 6,500.

The brand now sits behind William Grant & Sons’ Hendrick’s gin, which is currently the UK’s largest super-premium gin brand.

“Our new status as the second biggest super-premium gin in the UK is a major stepping stone for Caorunn Gin and a huge success considering the competitive category and great investments of larger brands,” said Ibolya Bakos-Tonner, Caorunn Gin global brand manager.

“It is a very exciting time for Caorunn Gin and we look forward to further expanding distribution in the UK and increasing penetration globally.”

Caorunn is a small batch Scottish gin made in Speyside’s Balmenach distillery using a range of botanicals including rowan berry, heather, coul blush apple and dandelion.

That is absolute rubbish. IWSR all lies anyway.

In any case – how is it ‘small batch’ if over 8k 9 litres a year? Clearly a dying gin trying to grab headlines because it hasnt got penetration

Isnt even in tesco or sainsburys’ ISnt as if On Trade has embraced it. Cant believ the SB even published this press rlease

Not sure where you shop John, but Caorunn is available in my local Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
