The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9 gets US release

William Grant USA has announced the launch of The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9 across the US, following the success of Batch 3 in 2011 and Batch 6 in 2012.

The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9 has been given a limited US release

Batch 9 is the third of the limited edition series, which has become popular with collectors and single malt enthusiasts, to be released in the States.

The latest release is a 49.3% abv vatting of 11 Bourbon casks and thee Sherry butts that have been allowed to marry together for a period of months in Tun 1401.

David Stewart, malt master for The Balvenie, describes the whisky’s nose as containing notes of dark fruit and marmalade with dark chocolate and honey on the palate with a “distinctly long, spicy finish”.

“We’ve identified what we believe to be an unprecedented range of liquids to comprise this Tun 1401 batch from the vast library of very rare whisky currently maturing at The Balvenie Distillery,” he added.

The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9 is available for a limited time for an RRP of US$250.

The series has been so popular with collectors that a bottle of Batch 1, which was only released for around £200 as a distillery edition, now fetches around £1,000 at auction.

The most recent expressions from The Balvenie’s Tun 1401 have been Batch 8, which was distributed exclusively in the UK in June this year and Batch 7, which entered travel retail.
