Suerte Tequila purchases Jalisco distillery

Suerte Tequila has celebrated its first anniversary by purchasing the Jalisco distillery Tequila Simbolo.

The owners of Tequila Suerte hopes to integrate the brand with the purchase of Jalisco distillery Tequila Simbolo

The brand, created by Colorado-based company Boulder, bought Tequilia Simbolo, producer of Suerte Tequilia, from the family of Suerte master distiller Pedro Hernandez Barba, who will retain an ownership stake in the company as well as his position as master distiller.

Barba is one of just a few remaining Tequila distillers who uses a traditional hand-carved stone wheel, called a tahona, to crush blue weber agave.

Suerte co-founder Laurence Spiewak, said: “While the distillery has been in operation for just a short decade, the land on which it sits has been in Pedro’s family for nearly two hundred years.

“Though we now own the distillery from a transactional point of view, Pedro’s work with us means that in a sense the property stays in the family.”

This purchase will allow the brand to become more integrated as Suerte Tequilas will be the only brand distilled and bottled at the facility.
