London bartender wins June Swizzle Masters; July heat open for entriesBy Becky Paskin
London bartender Radoslav Anuškevič has been named the June winner of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters, and will go through to the semi-finals in November.
Ten recipes from bartenders across the globe were selected for the June round of the year-long virtual cocktail competition, the theme for which was ‘Romantic Rum’.
Anuškevič’s cherry-chocolate rum creation Love Trap, which was garnished with a single red rose, was awarded first place after judges praised its balance and apt presentation.
The bartender, from Drake & Morgan’s The Parlour Bar in London, will have his recipe put through to the semi-finals of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters, to be held in London in November.
The overall winner of the competition will be presented with the title of Swizzle Master 2013 as well as a trip to either London or Holland, home of Wenneker liqueurs.
In joint second place were Philip Huy’s Caliente Por Favour and Giancarlo Caiazzo’s Carlito’s Special, and in third was Charlie Gollands’ Romeo and Juliet.
The next round of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters is now open for entries. The theme for July is ‘Irish Whiskey Summer Sizzler’, and all recipes must contain Jameson as its base spirit and at least a dash of Wenneker liqueurs.
Entries should be submitted at www.theswizzlemasters.com by 15 July.
• The Wenneker Swizzle Masters is a virtual cocktail competition with 11 uniquely themed rounds held each month throughout the year. Bartenders can submit up to three recipes for each round via the competition website. A shortlist of 10 recipes are chosen for each round to be mixed by an independent bartender, with the top cocktail going forward to the semi-finals in November. Just five will then be selected to compete in the grand final in December, with the winner named the Swizzle Master 2013.
