Movember makes its mark with Glenfarclas and Masters of Malt
Masters of Malt, the online retailer and independent bottler, has partnered with Glenfarclas to producer a special edition Movember whisky.
The online retailer has once again joined forces with a big brand in the spirits world (previous partnerships include Caskstrength.com for Christmas bitters) to create a limited edition whisky for lovers of all things rare and quirky.
This most recent effort is a special release nine-year old Glenfarclas aged in two Oloroso sherry hogsheads which will be available throughout Movember.
For the uninitiated, Movember encourages men to raise money by raising money through letting their beards/moustaches/goatees run riot, untouched by razor or clipper for a full month. All proceeds go to MovemberUK, a charity that raises money for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
This year £10 from each bottle (RRP £39.95) will go to the charity, which is almost a quarter of all proceeds.
The Manly Masters of Malt themselves will be doing their bit as well for Movember by letting their beards grow as nature intended.
The bottle will also show the Glenfarclas men’s dedication to the cause with an impressively moustachioed picture of the 1891 workforce on the front label, and, not to be out done, their 2011 counterparts posing in a similar pose on the back.
The bottle itself is heavily influenced by the sherry casks with a warm sherry nose and an initial warm flavour or caramel richness, followed by a bitter lime zestiness. The finish is dry, oaked and spicy with a hint of resin.
More an aperitif than an after dinner tipple, this unusual glenfarclas will go well with salted almonds and sharp cheeses.
