The Dorchester unveils exclusive Old Tom Gin
By Amy HopkinsLondon’s The Dorchester hotel has re-launched its own brand of Old Tom Gin in collaboration with The City of London distillery.
Giuliano Morandin, bar manager at The Bar and London’s The Dorchester hotel, has re-launched an exclusive Old Tom GinAvailable exclusively from The Dorchester hotel and its online shop, The Dorchester Old Tom Gin was created through a collaboration between the craft distillery and the hotel’s bar manager Giuliano Morandin, who first re-introduced the 18th Century style of gin to the UK market in 2006.
The historical gin is created by using a selection of sweeter botanicals including: juniper, coriander, angelica root, orris root, cassia bark, cardamom and fresh lemon and orange peel.
The gin will only be available in small 220 litre batches to “ensure the quality of the flavour is maintained”.
“This is an extremely exciting time for my team, the hotel and I,” said Morandin. “We have been working hard to make this new take on the original 18th century recipe stand next to other leading gins, and we welcome London’s bar cognoscenti to come and experience the result.
“The Dorchester Old Tom gin reflects the style and history of the hotel whilst encompassing a modern fusion of flavours.”
To celebrate the launch, Morandin has created the Old Tom Cobbler cocktail made from coriander, fresh lemongrass, elderflower and Old Tom Gin.
Other cocktails which will feature the spirit include Ramos Fizz and iconic Martinez which inspired Morandin to revive the production of the gin.
Morandin and his team will also offer private and bespoke Cocktail Master Classes showcasing the techniques and flavours used to compliment The Dorchester Old Tom Gin within the new signature cocktails.
The Dorchester Old Tom Gin is now available in 700ml (£65), 500ml, or 25ml bottles from The Bar at The Dorchester.
