Bombay’s new distillery wins sustainability award

Bombay Sapphire’s new distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, UK, has become the first distillery and refurbished building to win an ‘Outstanding’ accreditation for its building method.

The Laverstoke Mill distillery is designed to generate its own power using the River Test

Due to open in the summer, the new distillery has been praised by the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for its sustainable design.

The ‘Outstanding’ rating is given to a building measured by its management, health and well-being, energy, transport, water, materials, waste, land use and ecology, pollution, and innovation, and will be verified upon completion.

The distillery achieved a score of 86.81%, the second highest score awarded to an industrial building by BREEAM.

Emma Johansson, global marketing manager for Bombay Sapphire, said: “This rating, from the world’s most highly respected environmental assessment method, is a testament to all the care, skill and imagination that has ensured this distillery is built with sustainability at its very core.”

Laverstoke Mill incorporates several sustainable design features, including power generation from the River Test which flows through the site.
