London’s Chinawhite club relaunches as Libertine

London’s legendary celebrity haunt Chinawhite is has relaunched this month as a new modern nightclub complete with molecular mixology bar by the team behind Purl.

Libertine, formerly known as Chinawhite

The club in London’s Fitzrovia, famous for its pan-Asian décor and celebrity fans, reopened this month as Libertine, an ultra-modern nightspot featuring three separate spaces.

Director Hootan Ahmadi, also a fully qualified surgeon and former doorman, hopes to evolve Chinawhite into a sleek, modern establishment while holding onto its legendary status as a trendy celebrity hangout.

“Chinawhite has been one of the capital’s most iconic nightspots for many years,” he said. “Good times and glamour are a vital part of its DNA and we want to hold onto that. Nightclubs tap into that frisson of excitement that comes with meeting new people but I also want Libertine to feel like a house party full of interesting people from all walks of life.”

Libertine’s three areas include a molecular cocktail lounge called Reason & Mankind conceptualised by Fluid Movement, the team behind London’s Purl and Worship Street Whistling Shop.

Open from 5.30pm, the bar will serve “cutting edge” drinks to consumers before Libertine opens at 10.30pm.

The main club, which begs a £20 entry fee, boasts state-of-the-art lighting effects, including a 50-foot screen projecting visuals, images and film.

Chinawhite first opened near Regent Street but closed in 2008 after the building was sold. It reopened in 2009 on its current spot on Winsley Street.
