Abbey Lands Distillery planned for 2027

Whitby Distillery in North Yorkshire is readying to launch a second campaign to fund the build of its new ‘destination distillery’ in the English coastal town next year.

The new site will be located next to Whitby Abbey

The new site, to be known as Abbey Lands Distillery, will be located next to Whitby Abbey and will feature a visitor experience, tasting bar, and facilities to launch the brand’s first small-batch coastal whisky.

With more than nine million annual visitors to the region, the new site will combine distilling, retail and tourism, allowing the brand to significantly grow its direct-to-consumer sales, deepen customer relationships, and lay the foundations for future aged spirits.

The fundraising campaign launches tomorrow (9 April) on Republic Europe (formerly Seedrs), with the aim of generating £200,000 (US$268,660) to fund the build of the new site.

Whitby Distillery generated £1.63m (US$2.19m) in revenue in the year ending February 2026, and has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36% since 2017.

The existing site produces gin, rum and vodka, each inspired by the land and sea, and has produced more than 390,000 bottles in the last 12 months.

Whitby Distillery was founded by Luke Pentith and Jessica Slater, who remain the majority shareholders and active operators of the business.

The distillery was originally funded through the founding partners’ personal savings, with a successful Seedrs raise of £637,586.88 (US$856,470.46) in 2024, generated from 669 investors within two hours.

That first round enabled the founders to secure the new site and begin development of the Abbey Lands Distillery.

The distillery has seen 185% profit growth since the last funding round.
