Ukiyo Gin ups GTR presence
By Miona MadsenKirker Greer Spirits’ Ukiyo Japanese Gin has partnered with Gebr Heinemann to increase its presence in global travel retail (GTR).

Ukiyo’s three gins – Tokyo Dry, Blossom and Yuzu – will be available through Heinemann’s airport retail and distribution channels from April.
The agreement is said to mark a significant milestone in Kirker Greer Spirits’ three-year strategic growth plan for the channel.
Ryan McFarland, chief commercial and strategy officer at Drinksology Kirker Greer, said: “Partnering with Gebr Heinemann is a major milestone in our global travel retail journey.
“At our core, we’re committed to working with best-in-class partners who don’t just move boxes, but truly understand how to engage consumers through retail theatre and category-defining excitement.
“As Ukiyo continues its growth trajectory, launching our full gin range with Heinemann further cements the brand’s presence at the heart of the European travel retail channel. It also proves that there is an appetite for innovative, independent brands to challenge the status quo on the world’s most prestigious shelves.”
Kirker Greer Spirits attributes Ukiyo’s strong performance to its unique rice spirit base, traditional gin botanicals, Japanese flavour influences, and its premium yet accessible price point.
The brand’s portfolio has been designed with activation in mind, with plans to use its distinctive Japanese aesthetic and flavour stories for immersive pop-ups, tasting bars, and seasonal showcases.
For Kirker Greer Spirits, global travel retail serves as a showcase for Ukiyo, positively impacting domestic on- and off-trade markets and enhancing long-term international distribution discussions.
Manuel Schilling, head of buying spirits at Gebr Heinemann, commented: “By listing Ukiyo Japanese Gins, we have the opportunity to lead the premium Japanese gin segment in travel retail.
“The brand combines authentic provenance, striking design, and activation-ready appeal, making it highly relevant for discerning international travellers seeking premium gifting and contemporary flavour experiences.”
Kirker Greer Spirits’ expansion in GTR is part of a larger strategy to enhance international distribution and visibility for its premium portfolio, which includes Ukiyo Japanese Spirits, Born Irish Whiskey, Jawbox Gin, and Kirker Irish Whiskeys.
Earlier this year, Ukio partnered with Marks & Spencer to launch an exclusive Nashi Pear Gin.
