Global gin volumes up 1% in H1 2025
By Nicola CarruthersGin volumes grew by 1% across 20 markets in the first half of 2025, according to IWSR data cited by The Gin Guild.

According to The Gin Guild’s 2025 Annual Report, emerging markets such as India, the Philippines, Russia and China are leading category growth.
Compared with other spirits categories, gin’s growth was smaller but on the same level as agave. IWSR noted growth for several spirits subcategories in the first half of 2025, including Irish whiskey (up 2%), Indian whisky (up 7%), bitters/aperitif-based spirits (up 3%) and agave-based spirits (up 1%).
Global gin volumes increased by 2% to approximately 107 million cases in 2024. This figure was unveiled during The Gin Guild’s annual Ginposium conference last June in a seminar hosted by Chris Pitcher, drinks analyst at Redburn Atlantic.
Gin’s value rose by 3% last year to approximately US$14 billion – 29% above 2019 levels.
In its latest report, The Gin Guild noted that the rise of local gin in emerging markets is boosting the category.
The Gin Guild also referenced the Food and Drink Federation’s H1 Trade Snapshot, which revealed UK gin exports rose by 7.1% to the US in the first half of 2025. Value-wise, the category surged by 23.8% to nearly £100 million.
Globally, exports of UK gin rose by 17.6% in value to £298.4m (US$402.1m) in the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, volumes rose by 6.3%.
During last year’s Ginposium, it was noted that consumer interest is shifting back towards traditional juniper-led gin, while in the UK, flavoured gins are weakening faster than London Dry.
The Guild also highlighted the new trade deal between the UK and India, which will cut tariffs on gin and Scotch.
Furthermore, the category gained greater protection in the EU after the Court of Justice ruled that alcohol-free products cannot use the term ‘gin’ on their bottles.
“We welcome this decision – it upholds integrity in the gin category and protects producers who invest in the craft of gin distillation,” said The Gin Guild director Pal Gleed. “It means the word ‘gin’ remains a meaningful guarantee of alcohol-based botanical spirit, rather than a marketing label for a very different product.”
The report also noted a milestone year for The Gin Guild as it surpassed 600 members. In 2025, the Guild welcomed 58 new members, bringing the total to 612.
This year’s Ginposium conference will take place on Friday 12 June.
