Peddlers Gin rings in the Year of the Horse
By Miona MadsenShanghai-born Peddlers Gin has launched a limited edition expression inspired by Tanghulu street candy to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The latest innovation in Peddlers Gin’s annual limited edition series is inspired by Northern China’s winter treat: Tanghulu, a street candy made with sugar-coated hawthorn and strawberries.
The Year of the Horse release follows last year’s special edition, Snake Oil Gin, which was inspired by Beijing’s erba sauce.
Built on the brand’s signature London Dry gin, Tanghulu Street Candy Gin is infused with hawthorn, Guangdong liquorice, strawberry, juniper, coriander seed, Nanjing angelica, and Buddha’s Hand citrus.
Described as a Chinese twist on sloe gin, the expression offers aromas of fresh strawberries and Buddha’s Hand citrus. The palate is led by the refreshing tartness and light sweetness of hawthorn, finishing with classic juniper and angelica.
The gin can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail like the festive Tanghulu Mule. The signature cocktail combines Tanghulu Street Candy Gin, ginger sugar syrup, fresh lime juice, and ginger beer, garnished with tanghulu, mint, and lime.
The label was created by Plastered 8 and took inspiration from traditional Chinese firecracker posters.
Peddlers Tanghulu Street Candy Gin is now available in China for around CN¥290 (US$42) and will launch in London this March, with cocktails and a series of events that will be led by bartender Millie Tang.
Tang will join forces with the brand to host pop-up events at Hutong in the Shard in the London, and Shanghai Me at Hilton Park Lane.
The gin will also be featured at Hutong, Dim Sum Library, and Opium until mid-March, showcasing a selection of cocktails made with Peddlers Gin’s full range, including its classic Rare-Eastern gin, Barrel Aged gin, and Peddlers Salted Plum Gin.
In addition to China, Peddlers is available in more than 20 countries, including the UK, the US and Mongolia.
