Macallan marks 55 years of Diamonds Are Forever
Edrington-owned The Macallan has unveiled its second limited edition single malt whisky in partnership with the James Bond franchise.
Celebrating 55 years since Diamonds Are Forever hit the silver screen, the limited edition release nods to James Bond’s connoisseurship of Sherry wine, which is explored in the film’s plot.
Bond’s appreciation for Sherry’s craftsmanship, innovation and storytelling is said to be what connects the character with the Speyside brand.
Distilled in 2007, the whisky was matured for 18 years in bespoke hybrid casks crafted from Sherry-seasoned European and American oak.
These are complemented by American oak casks that previously held red wine. This selection reflects moments in the film where Bond’s command of wine allows him to uncover vital clues.
Crafted by whisky maker Russell Greig, The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release presents notes of polished oak, vanilla bean, and rich dried fruits on the nose, while the palate opens with smooth layers of caramel and cocoa-dusted truffles, revealing fruit-driven complexity and a hint of nutmeg. The finish is described as long and refined.
Greig commented: “Like Bond himself, this whisky holds its secrets. It may appear dark and mysterious, yet on the palate it surprises with elegance and lightness.
“Each cask adds a layer to the story – a reflection of the film’s twists and turns, and a testament to the shared spirit of innovation that connects The Macallan and James Bond.”
Bottled at 45.5% ABV, the Scotch whisky’s natural colour recalls the red and orange Aztec sandstone of the Nevada desert surrounding Las Vegas, which was a key location for the film.
The design of the bottle and presentation pack draws directly from the Diamonds Are Forever production art in the official Bond archives, from the laser-beam satellite to the film’s opening title sequence.

The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release is now available exclusively via themacallan.com, The Macallan Estate Boutique, and at Heathrow Airport until 17 February.
The release will then be available from select UK retailers, including Harrods, Selfridges, The Whisky Shop, Master of Malt and Amazon from 5 March at an RRP £600 (US$820.50).
This expression follows The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, which debuted in 2022.
