Motel Mezcal takes 1980s-inspired initiative on tour

Artisanal brand Motel Mezcal has unveiled an experimental Mezcalito Mirage takeover series that will debut in three Asian cities in January.

Inspired by the decadence of 1980s Miami and the neon-tropical glamour of 1970s New York nightclubs, the Mezcalito Mirage is said to reimagine cocktail bars as hedonistic mezcal hideaways, complete with disco-era soundtracks, maximalist décor, and elements of nostalgic luxury.

In collaboration with bartender Edgarito Santillan, the series will debut on 18 January at Honky Tonks Tavern in Hong Kong, which Santillan co-founded.

The tour will continue with stops at Hiboru in Taipei, Taiwan, on 22 January, and at Yaya’s in Shanghai, China, on 24 January.

Each stop will feature a bespoke Motel Mezcal cocktail menu curated by Santillan.

According to Motel Mezcal, Santillan’s passion for agave spirits and his strong ties to Mexico’s bartending culture make him the ideal partner for the brand’s first Asia-wide activation tour.

The initiative follows Motel Mezcal’s debut in six Asia Pacific markets in November 2025.

With increased distribution across Asia, Motel Mezcal aims to enhance global understanding of artisanal mezcal through creative, culturally-driven experiences.

The mezcal, crafted in Oaxaca by third-generation master mezcalero Daniel López and supported by New Zealand-born entrepreneur Henry Gordon, is produced from Capón Espadín agave using traditional methods.
