Kilchoman brings back cask strength Machir Bay
Three years after the last release, Kilchoman Distillery has brought back the cask strength version of its flagship expression, Machir Bay.
The expression is said to be the first of its kind since the evolution of the Machir Bay vatting, and boasts a deeper golden colour than the core range expression.
Bottled at 58.1% ABV, the 2025 limited release presents aromas of smoke, sweet vanilla, caramel, citrus, and tropical fruit, along with hints of floral and mineral nuances.
On the palate, the single malt displays notes of maritime peat smoke, fresh and candied citrus, toffee, subtle spice, vanilla, toasted coconut, and a saline finish.
Anthony Wills, founder of Kilchoman Distillery, said: “One of my favourite whiskies we have released, it has everything I love about Kilchoman spirit, with a little extra punch. There will be a lot of happy Kilchoman fans seeing the Machir Bay Cask Strength back on shelves.”
The limited edition release has a suggested retail price of £64.90 (US$85) for a 700ml bottle.
Established in 2005, the Islay-based Kilchoman Distillery is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the milestone, the farm distillery released four small batch single malts under the 20th Anniversary Cask Series.
In August, Kilchoman launched a prize draw for a unique bottling of single malt from its first-ever cask.
Last month, the distillery released an 11-year-old Sherry cask-matured bottling under its 100% Islay range.
