The new series will showcase unique selections of modern British rum drawn from DropWorks’ barrel storage.

Every rum is crafted at the DropWorks distillery in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire.

The first release in the new Distiller’s Drop series was matured for 17 months in a rare English sweet chestnut cask and is limited to 450 bottles.

Lewis Hayes, founder and master distiller at DropWorks, said: “Since opening our doors in 2023, everything has been building towards this. We’re excited to introduce our first limited-release Distiller’s Drop that showcases our ability to craft exceptional rum beyond our core range.

“Traditionally, rum is aged in oak casks, which add familiar notes of vanilla and coconut thanks to natural lactones in the wood. The English chestnut wood creates a nutty, rounded flavour profile, with notes of praline, roasted chestnuts, and warm autumnal tones. These casks are extremely hard to come by, but a local cooperage made us seven bespoke English chestnut hogsheads, which have never been used, enabling us to add a deep flavour in a short amount of time.

Hayes added: “This is one Drop you won’t want to miss. I recommend it be enjoyed neat, no ice, to fully appreciate its depth and complex character.”

Officially debuting on 3 November, the inaugural Drop will be available from 27 October exclusively to the 295 investors who participated in the distillery’s crowdfunding campaign, which raised nearly half a million pounds earlier this year.

Consumers interested in gaining early access to future releases can sign up for the DropWorks newsletter. For the inaugural release, subscribers will receive early presale access from 29 October.

DropWorks’ range of core expressions includes Barrel Drop, Clear Drop, Dark Drop, Funk Drop, and Spice Drop.

Last month, the distillery appointed Greg Matthew, the chief financial officer of PJ Capital, as a non-executive director.
