Whisky.Auction releases 10th anniversary report
By Miona MadsenThe report from The Whisky Exchange-owned online auction platform reveals that a correction is still taking place in the secondary market.

The 40-page report examines the evolution of the secondary whisky market since the launch of Whisky.Auction in 2015.
It was written in collaboration with historian and author Nicholas Morgan, and celebrates the secondary market of whiskies – tracking highs, lows and the future of the sector.
Gemma de Jesus, head of Whisky.Auction, said: “At Whisky.Auction, we are first and foremost whisky lovers – our motto has always been that selling with us is the ‘second best thing to do with your whisky.’
“We’re passionate about giving these old, rare and lost bottles a new lease of life, allowing our customers to buy, sell, collect and trade through our platform.
“We hope this report proves an entertaining read for the whisky and spirits lovers who have made the last 10 years of Whisky.Auction possible.”
The report focuses on eight brands that have defied recent trends in the secondary market, delving into their histories to reveal why they remain popular among whisky collectors and continue to sell well at Whisky.Auction.
The investigation includes closed distilleries like Port Ellen and Brora, and Springbank, as well as modern favourites such as The Dalmore and Hibiki.
According to the report, the secondary market saw a surge in interest from 2015 to 2020 as whisky collecting became a mainstream hobby and investment opportunity.
The report also highlights a market correction that began in 2022, resulting in lower prices and an increase in unsold bottles. According to Whisky.Auction, this correction is ongoing, but it does not signify the end of whisky auctions. Instead, it ‘represents a reset that allows passionate collectors to buy, drink, and enjoy old and rare whiskies once again’.
As long-standing favourites of whisky enthusiasts, the auction site identifies brands with rich histories and unique characteristics. Notable examples include Port Ellen, a revived icon; Springbank, a cult distillery known for its distinct heritage; and White Horse, a blend with ‘significant’ historical importance.
The 10th anniversary report is now available for download by all Whisky.Auction customers through their account dashboard.
Yesterday (8 October), The Whisky Exchange, Speciality Drinks, and Whisky.Auction revealed an updated branding, following Pernod Ricard’s acquisition of the company in 2021.
