1906 debuts neutral cannabis ‘spirit’

American wellness brand 1906 has created a neutral cannabis ‘spirit’ designed for a ‘hangover-free’ experience.

1906 contains both THC and CGB

Described as the ‘world’s first’ neutral cannabis ‘spirit’, 1906 is suggest for use in any beverage, including cocktails, mocktails, sparkling water, or soda.

Each 750ml bottle contains both 200g THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and 200mg CBG (cannabigerol), active compounds found in cannabis. The inclusion of CBG is designed to balance the effects of THC.

Other cannabis beverages on the market are ‘heavily flavoured’ and typically contain only THC, according to 1906.

The expression features a neutral profile.

According to the brand, effects are usually experienced within 20 minutes and can last for two to three hours, mimicking the rhythm of traditional drinking.

Peter Barsoom, co-founder and CEO of 1906, said: “1906 Spirits is the first cannabis spirit designed for modern social drinking. Alcohol shaped the last century of social life. Cannabis will shape the next. With 1906 Spirits, we are redefining social drinking, giving people the freedom to enjoy cannabis and participate in this cultural shift without compromise.”

The ‘spirit’ was developed in response to changing drinking habits in the US.

According to Gallup’s 2025 Consumption Habits survey, only 54% of US adults reported they consume alcohol, the lowest rate in nearly 90 years. This shift is primarily influenced by young adults, of whom only half say they actively drink.

1906 Spirits is available from the brand’s website for US$59.99 in the US, as well as in select retail locations in New Jersey from 29 September.
