Benromach gets multi-million capacity upgrade
Gordon & MacPhail (G&M) has completed its multi-million pound investment in the Benromach Distillery and added three new warehouses.
One warehouse at the Forres-based whisky distillery, named Warehouse 10, will increase maturation capacity by more than 25%.
Meanwhile, another warehouse, which measures 472 square metres and will be used for racking, will allow the distillery to hold around 9,000 more casks of Scotch whisky.
Jade Crotty, head of compliance and infrastructure at G&M, said: “We are always thinking ahead to the future of the business. We continue to invest in the local and surrounding areas – through new warehouses, distilleries, and the careful refurbishment of historic buildings – to ensure our infrastructure meets the needs of today, and generations to come.
“The new warehouse complex at Benromach Distillery is just one example of this. Increasing our maturation capacity will allow us to continue to produce high-quality single malts across our portfolio of brands for decades to come.”
Family-owned Robertson Construction Northern led the build.

Following the expansion, the warehouse complex at Benromach will also have space to hold liquid from The Cairn, the other Scottish distillery that G&M owns.
Elgin-based G&M is also an independent bottler. Last month, the company announced it will release the world’s oldest single malt Scotch in October – an 85-year-old Glenlivet.
The company is currently refurbishing its brand home on South Street in Elgin – a project also led by Robertson Construction Northern. The refurbishment will include the creation of a world-class visitor experience.
In May, CEO Phillip White departed G&M. Chair of the board Neil Urquhart became acting chief executive.
