Familia Torres launches vermouth in UK

Spanish producer Familia Torres has partnered with Cask Liquid Marketing to launch its Casals Mediterranean Vermouth in the UK.

Inspired by an old family recipe, Casals is ‘the only’ Mediterranean vermouth made with the ancestral Selma white grape variety, and more than 20 botanicals.

The vermouth is part of Spanish wine producer Familia Torres’ spirits division, Juan Torres Master Distillers.

Spirits brands in the division also include Torres brandy, El Gobernador pisco from Chile, and blended Scotch whisky Liathmor.

The sweet red vermouth is named after Juan Torres Casals, who began producing brandies in 1928, and is said to pay tribute to tradition, family, and the Mediterranean lifestyle. The name ‘Casals’ also means ‘country house’ in Catalan.

Casals’ recipe includes wines aged three years in oak barrels, which are then infused with a selection of hand-pressed Mediterranean botanicals such as olive leaves, thyme, rosemary, cinnamon, and citrus peels.

Bottled at 16% ABV, the result is a red vermouth with a ‘distinctive Mediterranean profile’, offering sweet and bitter notes that work well in cocktails and as an aperitif or over ice.

Casals Mediterranean Vermouth is said to stand out in classic cocktails such as the Negroni, Manhattan, and Boulevardier, as well as inventive creations like the Casals Spritz.

Christian Visalli, spirits global managing director at Familia Torres, said: “The UK is a key market for the growth of our brands. Cask (Liquid Marketing) has extensive experience in building new brands and a strong presence in the on-trade channel, making them the ideal partner to support us in this new chapter for Casals in the British market.”

Casals is now available in the UK at Master of Malt with a recommended retail price of £20.95 (US$28) for a 750ml bottle.

Earlier this year, Torres Brandy crowned Daniel Pappa from Svanen cocktail bar in Oslo as the winner of its Zero Challenge 2025.
