TLDC unveils English blended malt series

The London Distillery Company (TLDC) has released its second expression following the brand’s resurrection, the first in a series of English blended malt whiskies.

The Golden Union: Release No.1 is the first edition of an English blended malt series

Called The Golden Union: Release No.1 – A Field in England, the bottling combines the distillery’s malt whisky with single malt from Adnams Distillery in Southwold.

The new expression is the first in a new series of English blended malt whiskies, which pays tribute to the evolving world of English whisky.

The Golden Union series will comprise malt whiskies sourced from various English distilleries and aged in different types of casks.

The inaugural release combines multiple vintages aged in various casks, including hogsheads.

Bottled at 50% ABV, the blended malt offers aromas of creamy toffee, buttery corn, breakfast cereals, meringue, and waxed lemons with earthy undertones. The palate displays notes of preserved lemons, ripening mango, white pepper, milk chocolate, oats, and buttered toast.

Matt McKay, managing director and whisky maker, said: “At TLDC, we’ve long believed in the potential of English whisky. And with The Golden Union, we’re proud to celebrate that belief by launching an ongoing series that puts English malt whisky – in all its diversity – centre stage.

“For decades, drinkers have largely looked to the whisky powerhouses of Scotland, Ireland, and Japan for whiskies which express the elegance and exploration that it is possible to achieve through the art of blending. But recently, England has confidently joined that conversation.”

England is currently home to more than 50 licensed distilleries producing whisky. According to McKay, “what sets English whisky apart is precisely the freedom of textures, techniques, and philosophies: the absence of rigid expectations.”

The Golden Union: Release No.1 will be available from the distillery’s website and select retailers on 30 June, with an RRP of £49.95 (US$68).

TLDC’s debut single malt, Renascence – The Revival Release, launched earlier this year following the brand’s acquisition by Gleann Mòr Spirits in 2023. Limited to 410 bottles, the relaunch release sold out in less than 24 hours.
