Kilchoman unveils 20th anniversary series
By Miona MadsenIndependent Islay-based distillery Kilchoman has released four small batch single malts in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

Kilchoman Distillery, established in 2005 by Anthony Wills, has bottled 20 casks to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Wills commented on the distillery’s 20-year meander: “It has been a journey, not always smooth, but intensely fulfilling.”
Called the 20th Anniversary Cask Series, the collection comprises four small batch bottlings, each consisting of five casks.
The whiskies highlight Kilchoman’s two sides of the distillery’s character, matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks.
The first of the quartet, a 14-year-old ex-Bourbon cask aged single malt, is limited to 1,120 bottles. Offered at 51.2% ABV, the whisky displays aromas of rich caramel, lemon zest, and subtle peat smoke, joined on the palate by notes of sweet toffee, vanilla, and lemon curd.
The second 14-year-old expression is crafted with 100% Islay barley and aged in ex-Sherry casks, yielding aromas of barbecue smoke, black pepper, and dried fruits, with notes of warm spices, dried dates, dark chocolate, and liquorice.
Carrying an ABV of 55%, the release is limited to 3,145 bottles.
The third expression, a 15-year-old, has been matured in ex-Sherry casks and is limited to 3,153 bottles at 52.7% ABV.
Displaying aromas of sweet Sherry, pepper, and brine, the single malt offers additional notes of dark fruits and gentle smoke on the palate.
Representing one of the oldest whiskies from Kilchoman, the 18-year-old ex-Bourbon aged expression is offered at 46% ABV and is limited to 1,209 bottles.
The final vatting in the series showcases aromas of butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak, with notes of toffee fruits, peat smoke, and brine on the palate.
The 20th Anniversary Cask Series will initially be available in the UK and Europe, priced between £120-£190 (US$159-$252), followed by international markets.
Earlier this year, Kilchoman released a limited edition 13-year-old single malt.
At The Scotch Whisky Masters 2024, Kilchoman was awarded two Master medals for its Batch Strength and Sanaig expressions, and a Gold for the distillery’s flagship single malt, Machir Bay.
