The Savoy’s American Bar unveils new menu

Liquid Moments, the new menu at The American Bar, celebrates The Savoy’s 135th anniversary and was inspired by the hotel’s history.

It features 17 new cocktails based on stories from the Savoy’s history, including references to Marlene Dietrich’s fondness for roses and head doorman Tony Cortegaca’s homeland.

The menu is the first to launch since Angelo Sparvoli returned as head bartender, following a four-year absence. He replaced Chelsie Bailey, who left the bar at the beginning of 2024.

Bar manager Andrea Di Chiara, who co-created the menu with Sparvoli, said: “Our new menu not only celebrates The Savoy’s most legendary moments, but also the individual and intangible memories created when guests walk through our doors.

“Each cocktail reflects a unique chapter of the hotel’s legacy, inviting guests to celebrate 135 years of glamour and innovation, as well as their own cherished experiences at the American Bar.”

Cocktails include A Touch of Pink, inspired by Marlene Dietrich, who would request 12 pink roses to be in her room when she stayed at the hotel. The serve combines Portobello Road gin, Muyu Jasmine Verte liqueur and lemon, garnished with pink rose petals.

Since 1986 is a cocktail inspired by The Savoy’s doorman, Tony Cortegaca, who has been in his role for almost 40 years. The serve incorporates white Port as a nod to his home country of Portugal, alongside Bacardí Carta Blanca rum, apricot, lime and London Essence roasted pineapple soda.

The Savoy’s famous ‘Ascending Room’ was the first electric lift in London, and the hotel used to offer smelling salts to calm guests’ nerves from the unfamiliar movement. The New Heights cocktail references this with salt-fermented blackberries, combined with Absolut Elyx vodka, Cocchi Rosa and 30&40 Apple Eaux de Vie.

The new menu is available alongside a collection of vintage spirits, which can be enjoyed in serves such as a Hanky Panky – which was invented at The Savoy in 1903 by legendary bartender Ada ‘Coley’ Coleman – or a White Lady.
