Valt founder launches new Scottish gin

The founder of craft single malt vodka brand Valt is launching a new premium Scottish gin named Gilt.

Gilt, the latest in a line of Scottish gins, is being rolled out this month

Launching this month in the UK, Gilt is a single malt gin made using Scottish barley by Valt Vodka founder Ricky Christie.

“In style it has the character of a classic London dry gin, but the nature of the spirit adds a completely unique twist,” Christie explained. “It is not too floral or exotic – it’s a gin for every occasion.”

With a silver lion etched on the bottle, the brand’s Scottish credentials are important to Christie.

“We have centuries of distilling expertise and after all those years of making Scotch there is no reason why we can’t make an excellent gin,” he said.

Gilt is the latest in a raft of craft distilled gins to come out of the UK in recent years, joining the likes of Sipsmith and Sacred.

It is distilled in the Vale of Leven, near Loch Lomond, using a special hybrid still designed in Germany, that is part pot still and part column still.

With an RRP of £29.50, Gilt is distributed by Gordon & MacPhail and Forth Wines in Scotland, and by Bibendum and Coe Vintners south of the border.

It will shortly be available in Spain and the US, through Forte Imports Inc.

Christie launched Valt Vodka in 2006. The brand is now distributed throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and the US.
