Filliers Distillery in Bachte-Maria-Leeme, Belgium, dates to 1880 and began making malt whisky in 2008.

Filliers Single Malt Whisky Bourbon Oak is the distillery’s second single malt release, joining its 10-year-old Sherry cask-matured single malt and two rye whiskies with age statements of five and eight years.

The new release is distilled in pot stills and matured for a minimum of 50 months – just over four years – in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the whisky offers a ‘smooth and rounded character’, featuring notes of caramel and vanilla.

Described as the most accessible whisky in the distillery’s range, the expression is set to appeal to both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts alike.

Filliers Bourbon Oak Single Malt will be available at selected retailers at a recommended price of €29.95 (US$33).

Belgium isn’t typically associated with whisky – but Filliers is one of a few brands expanding the world whisky category.

As well as whisky, the distillery produces vodka, gin, genever and advocaat.
