Brown-Forman completes Gin Mare buyout
Mediterranean-inspired Gin Mare is officially part of the Brown-Forman stable following completion of the acquisition.
Brown-Forman revealed plans to purchase Gin Mare for an undisclosed amount in September 2022.
Gin Mare was previously owned by Vantguard and MG Destilerías.
Lawson Whiting, president and CEO, Brown-Forman, said: “As a unique gin with a distinctive taste profile, Gin Mare is an exciting addition to our company and we believe it will contribute positively to our growth and success.”
Gin Mare is a Spanish gin and the world’s number-one ultra-premium gin, according to Brown-Forman.
The original expression is made with botanicals including Arbequina olives, thyme, rosemary and basil.
Last year, the range grew with the addition of Gin Mare Capri, made with additional botanicals Italian bergamot and lemons.
Following the acquisition, Gin Mare will continue to be made at MG Destilerías in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
The spirits industry has seen a plethora of acquisitions announced in the last few weeks.
This week, Diageo bought American whiskey producer Balcones Distilling.
Meanwhile, Aperol owner Campari Group bought a 70% stake in Wilderness Trail Distillery for US$420 million. It came a week after Campari Group acquired a minority stake in Catalyst Spirits.
Furthermore, Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) producer Tilaknagar Industries acquired a 19.5% stake in ready-to-drink (RTD) shot maker Incredible Spirits.
Last month, Brown-Forman revealed plans to buy Diplomático Rum.
