Curio Spirits gains funding for expansion
By Nicola CarruthersCornwall-based Curio Spirits Company has secured a £102,413 (US$138,655) loan to increase its production and create new jobs.

The Porthleven-based business received £89,376 (US$120,958) from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Investment Fund (CIOSIF) and £12,767 (US$17,278) from SWIG Finance.
The funding will be used to develop Curio Spirits’ premises to enable the company to offer gin tastings, tours and allow consumers to distil their own gin. Furthermore, it will create three new jobs.
Curio Spirits was established by husband-and-wife team William and Rubina Tyler-Street in 2014.
“Rubina and I are really excited to be scaling up the business and sharing our passion through the carefully crafted range of spirits which we have created,” said William.
“We are looking forward to the next stage of Curio Spirits journey, which includes new products and an interactive visitor experience at Porthleven with tours, masterclasses and taster events. We’re extremely excited for the future and cannot wait to get stuck in.”
The company’s core gin combines Asian flavours with Cornish ingredients. The portfolio also includes flavoured gin, vodka, rum and a new hard seltzer range.
Rachel Thomson, business manager at SWIG Finance, added: “We are delighted to provide this funding, which will enable William and Rubina to move into larger premises allowing them to increase production levels, meeting demand. They have great products, all with a Cornish twist.”
The £40 million (US$54m) CIOSIF provides financial support to help small businesses across the region.
In September 2017, the spirits producer and naval base RNAS Culdrose teamed up to create a commemorative gin.
