901 Tequila sponsors celebrity golf tournament
By Annie HayesJustin Timberlake’s 901 Tequila served up a variety of special serves at the American Century Championship golf tournament, which featured more than 80 stars including retired basketball player Charles Barkley and actor Ray Romano.
Founder Justin Timberlake also competed in the tournamentThe brand was named the official Tequila of the tournament and secured promotional and on-course presence throughout the event, which took place from 19-24 July at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Stateline, Nevada.
Sports and entertainment stars – including Timberlake, founder of 901 Tequila – competed in the 27 year-old tournament for US$600,000 in prize money raising funds for multiple charities.
As part of the sponsorship, officials created a 901 Tequila Bar on the 14th hole during the competition, which featured a viewing platform, bar and food. The brand was also featured at the Wednesday night pairings party and the Saturday evening Awards Party.
The field welcomed 20 athletes from the NFL, NBA and NHL; 13 Baseball Hall of Famers, more than 20 former all-stars and a host of comedians and politicians.
First-timers also took to the field, including NFL stars Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals, Brandon Marshall of the New York Jets, and Golden Tate of the Detroit Lions; as well and two-time Olympic Soccer Gold Medalist Abby Wambach; 2013 Women’s World Long Drive Champion Heather LeMaster; and NASCAR driver Brian Vickers.
