Angostura launches amaro expression in UK

The house of Angostura has rolled out its Amaro di Angostura expression to the UK market, two years after the product’s initial launch.

Amaro di Angostura marked Angostura’s first venture into a new spirit category for the first time in its 190-year history when it launched in 2014

Trinidadian bitters and rum producer Angostura marked its 190th anniversary with the launch of Amaro de Angostura in 2014 – marking the first time the brand had entered a new spirits category in its history.

Created using the Angostura aromatic bitters as a base, Amaro di Angostura combines additional spices and neutral alcohol for a 35% abv liqueur with notes of dark chocolate, cinnamon and liquorice.

The expression launched in the US in 2014, and will roll out across the UK from this month through Lightbox Brands at an RRP of £27.00.

“There is a great interest in the amaro category right now,” said Patrick O’Reilly, owner of Lightbox Brands. “It’s clear that there are parallels to be drawn from the rise of gin, vermouth, craft beer and the desire for authenticity and provenance in our drinking experiences.

“The feedback we have had from the trade on Amaro di Angostura reinforces all the above.  The blend of Angostura’s iconic aromatic bitters, spirit and spices – creates a delicious candied bitter sweet liquid – ideal for balanced cocktail use.”
